Are Massages Supposed To Hurt?

In short, no massage should not hurt.
There can be discomfort during certain techniques and positions with massage therapy but it should not actually hurt.
On a pain scale if someone asked you 1-10 what would you rate this pain your answer should remain around a 5 or less.
Anything higher is unnecessary for a massage therapy session unless the therapist has told you prior to expect it and will walk you through it.
For example, trigger point therapy might feel like an 8 initially but the massage therapist has full control over how much more or less pain you feel. By them simply applying less pressure you will likely report a lower rating.
Its so easy to go onto Tik Tok or Instagram and see someone digging aggressively under someones scapula (shoulder blade) or rubbing a tool so hard that the person begins screaming in pain.
But that is not normal. What you are witnessing is click bait and a bunch of ( maybe unlicensed) licensed therapist who care more about views online than anything else.
Glute work can be sensitive and so can the IT band, or areas of pain in general may feel tender but what you can expect with our NYC massage spa near you is that we will hear you and adjust our pressure, instruct you to breathe when your body is tensing, and really give you a safe environment.
And if you arent here in NYC or perhaps are going to a different massage clinic please know that speaking up is your right. You should never pay money to be uncomfortable and the more you can voice when something doesn't feel right the better your session will be.
CONCLUSION
Your body should be protected during any massage session and you should never feel violated and in too much pain to speak.
